Vietnam Obesity Study 2025
Vietnam currently has one of the the lowest obesity rates in Southeast Asia, but it is rising at the fastest pace in the region (World Obesity Federation, 2025). The World Health Organization refers to obesity as an epidemic, as this trajectory not only threatens individual health outcomes but also places a growing burden on the national healthcare system and economy. Despite this, obesity has yet to receive the attention it deserves from the public.
While many individuals acknowledge the risks of obesity, awareness alone often fails to translate into meaningful action.
This study examines public awareness and perceptions of obesity, drawing on insights from both the general population and real-life experiences of patients and healthcare professionals. These findings aim to support policymakers, private sector leaders, and communicators in reshaping how obesity is understood and addressed in Vietnam, framing it as a chronic health issue, rather than merely a matter of appearance. Reframing the narrative is essential to drive more urgent, informed, and effective responses before the issue becomes deeply entrenched.
